Opened in 2013, the ‘Heart of the Reef’ transit terminal at the Port of Airlie echoes the exciting changes taking place in Airlie Beach and is one of several catalyst developments which is reinvigorating the region’s tourism industry.
In September 2014 Cruise Whitsunday moved their ferry operations to Port of Airlie, offering day trips, servicing the island resorts and Hamilton Island Airport. Since this transition the Heart of the Reef Transit Facility has come into its own providing seamless linkages between Cruise Whitsunday services and Whitsunday Transit and other coach services.
The facility has been designed to allow people to easily transition to and from the centre of town by car, taxi or coach, enjoy the Port of Airlie and connect to the Whitsunday Coast Airport and Shute Harbour Ferry terminal for ease of access to the Whitsunday islands.
The facility includes coach bays for eight coaches, 10 mini-bus parking spaces and more than 10 taxis as well as car parking, toilets and waiting areas.
