Flagstaff Hill

Council recently endorsed the concept design for the new Flagstaff Hill building and also awarded the demolition contract for the old building.

The concept plan will now go for detailed design which will take 8-10 weeks to finalise and then the tender for construction will be released.

Division 6 Councillor Mike Brunker said it was great news that we can now get the ball rolling and demolish the old building and start construction of the new facility.

“The concept plan will deliver a multi-purpose facility with a function area, a cafeteria style dining set-up and a cultural activities area.

“The building is designed to ensure all these areas make the most of the amazing 360 degree views that Flagstaff Hill is famous for.”

Works will begin to demolish the damaged building and lookout pavilion at Flagstaff Hill in Bowen, from Wednesday 30 October. The demolition is expected to take 5 weeks to complete, weather permitting.

During this time the road to the top of the hill will remain open, and the carpark and other lookout areas will still be accessible to the general public. Fencing will be in place around the construction site for public safety.

Please note there will be trucks accessing the site throughout this time, which may cause minor traffic delays at times.
