Camping and RV Parks

Whitsunday Regional Council encourages travellers to visit the Whitsundays by providing a number of caravan parks, free camping grounds and RV Parks within the region.

Lake Proserpine

Lake Proserpine is situated 30 minutes inland from Proserpine and is an ideal spot for watersports and freshwater fishing. Lake Proserpine is renowned as home to 1m plus barramundi which can be fished all year round! Each year, the Lake is restocked with over 20,000 barramundi fingerlings.

Whitsunday Regional Council is currently upgrading the recreational facilities at Lake Proserpine to activate the space. As of Friday 4 October 2019, free 72-hour lakeside camping is permitted.

Toilet blocks and shower camping amenities are currently under construction so RV’s and campers utilising the area will need to be self-sufficient or alternatively, the existing amenities to the north of the camping area can be utilised.

Access upgrades, three new pontoons and a jetty have been installed. Other works underway include resurfacing of carpark areas and line-marking, new BBQ areas, extra bins and concrete slabs are soon to be replaced in the recreation area.
