The Cannonvale Beach Foreshore is set for major improvements, with an upgrade to the playground and picnic facilities starting Wednesday 23 August.
Whitsunday Regional Council recently consulted with the local community over the proposed concept plans for the area, and received a strong response in support of the plans.
The plans for Stage 1 of the upgrade include new BBQs and shelters, brand new playground and exercise equipment under Works for Queensland funding, as well as repairs to the rock wall and upgraded footpaths and landscaping.
Division Two Councillor Ron Petterson said the improvements would freshen up the foreshore area and provide some much-needed TLC to the public facilities.
“We had a great response to the consultation, with over 50 people completing surveys both online and in person at the public display,” he said.
“The Foreshore is a popular spot for both locals and visitors, and the plans will really rejuvenate this community space.”
The new playground and cross-fit exercise equipment will be installed by the end of October, under Works for Queensland funding to provide jobs for local businesses.
The overall upgrade is expected to be completed by mid-November 2017, weather permitting.
The master plan for the Foreshore also includes further improvements such as additional car parking spaces and more seating, which will be completed at a later date as Stage 2.
