Cannonvale residents will be receiving a brand new shaded playground and BBQ facilities at the untouched Cannonvale Lake Parkland on Parker Road.
The new facilities have been made possible thanks to Works for Queensland funding to stimulate the local economy, and will greatly benefit the community by providing park facilities for families to enjoy in the area.
Whitsunday Regional Councillor Ron Petterson said the works would be getting underway on Wednesday 23 August.
“This area has only recently come under Council’s control and currently has no facilities, so I am delighted with the plans,” he said.
“There are a large number of residents who live near the park, and who will use the playground and BBQs regularly.”
“It will become a great community space for kids to play and families to picnic together.”
The playground works are expected to be completed by the end of October, weather permitting.
Local residents near the park were consulted recently on the concept plans for the playground and improvements to the lake and park.
Council is currently investigating solutions to improve the water quality, drainage and causeway at the lake, and reviewing plans to repair the boardwalk and lighting after extensive cyclone damage.
Regular maintenance will also be taking place by Council’s Parks & Gardens team, to keep the lake and park attractive and well-maintained for the local community.
