Whitsunday Regional Council has temporarily closed Strathmore Road at Collinsville due to safety concerns.
With the high increase in heavy traffic on Strathmore Rd over recent months, the condition of the road deteriorated to a state which causes a potential danger to public safety.
Council’s Roads Inspectors have assessed Strathmore Road and determined urgent repair work is required to restore the road to an acceptable standard for public use.
In order to commence reconstruction in the quickest possible timeframe, Whitsunday Regional Council will temporarily close Strathmore Road from Wednesday 25 April 2018.
Council will place barriers and official traffic signs at key access points along the Strathmore Road route from Bowen Development Rd to the Myuna Rd intersection.
Reconstruction work on Strathmore Rd will commence at 7am Thursday, April 26 and the work is expected to take up to 2 weeks.
Council roads engineers will continually assess road condition throughout the reconstruction and endeavor to re-establish public access along Strathmore Rd as soon as practical during the reconstruction.
Council is aware that closure of Strathmore Rd will cause traffic disruptions however public safety and the safety of all road users is a priority at this time.
