The 2014-15 Whitsunday Regional Council budget includes $400,000 for four town entrance
statements, one for each of the major townships in the local government area; Airlie
Beach/Cannonvale, Bowen, Collinsville and Proserpine.
Mayor Whitney said the budget also includes $15,000 for a heritage management plan for the
North Head Lighthouse Project, Bowen.
“The town entrance statements will celebrate the individualism of each township, while working to unite the region via a common theme.
“We are very pleased we can offer $100,000 to each of the four townships for these community
projects, administered by Council, with local economic development groups, chambers of
commerce and tourism organisations driving their delivery with complimentary funding where
applicable,” Mayor Whitney said.
The proposed organisations and locations are:
Proserpine Entry Statements
Bruce Highway North and South, led by the Proserpine Chamber of Commerce
Airlie Beach Entry Statements
Airlie Beach Main Street retaining wall, led by SKAL Whitsunday
Bowen Entry Statements
Bruce Highway or Salt Works Creek, led by the Bowen Chamber of Commerce
Collinsville Entry Statements
Bowen Developmental Road and throughout the township, led by the Collinsville Business
Women’s Network.
Mayor Whitney said the budget also includes $15,000 for a heritage management plan for the
North Head Lighthouse Project, Bowen.
“Council is working with the committee and the community to ensure the heritage value of the
lighthouse is preserved, while also adhering to relevant legislation and regulations,” she said.
Mayor Whitney said despite Council’s main priority being focused on paying down debt the $16.2 million capital work program includes much needed road upgrades, water and sewerage
infrastructure improvements and some community projects across the entire region.
