Mayor Jenny Whitney said as part of the 2014-15 Whitsunday Regional Council Budget $4.8million in water and sewerage infrastructure will be delivered.
“$4.8 million will be spent on water sewerage network upgrades across the entire Whitsundayregion to ensure the two new Water Treatment Plants and Sewerage Treatment Plants cancontinue to service the region effectively,” Mayor Whitney said.
“We have four new state of the art water and sewerage treatment plants, however, we have anageing infrastructure network.
“The $4.8 million in funding in this budget will ensure the network can be maintained to continue to deliver water and sewer services across the region,” she said
Some of the major water and sewerage upgrades include:
$400,000 for the Bowen Water Treatment Plant intake$100,000 for the Collinsville Water Treatment Plant control panel replacement$390,000 for the sewer relining program in Proserpine$1.58 million for pump upgrades near Cannonvale Sewerage Treatment Plant$427,000 for the watermain replacement program in Bowen and Merinda
Mayor Whitney said despite Council’s main priority being focused on paying down debt the $16.2 million capital work program includes much needed road upgrades, water and sewerageinfrastructure improvements and some community projects across the entire region.
