Whitsunday Regional Council has received $7,380 from the State Government to assist with graffitiremoval and prevention activities.
As part of the Queensland Government’s policy on community safety, more than $2 million infunding has been committed to support the operation of a GraffitiSTOP hotline and for graffitimanagement funding to Queensland council in 2014-15.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said I am pleased to receive this funding which will go a long way towardsassisting Council with the costs associated with graffiti removal.
“Graffiti is an increasing issue across the Whitsunday region, costing council a substantial amount of money each year to clean up,” she said.
“We need to adopt a zero tolerance for graffiti – it not only looks unsightly it hurts property values, and drives away business and tourism.”
The State Government has also announced the availability of further funding through the 2014-15 GraffitiSTOP Clean Up Program, with applications now open.
$1 million will be available through this program and Whitsunday Regional Council will submit anapplication in hope of securing further funding to support graffiti management across the region.
