Whitsunday Disaster Management Group (WDMG) is looking for volunteer Emergency LiaisonOfficers in 13 communities across the Whitsunday Regional Council local government area.
Mayor and Chair of the Whitsunday Disaster Management Group Jenny Whitney said the volunteer Emergency Liaison Officers will be the WDMG’s point of contact within these smaller communities during a disaster event or emergency operation.
“During a disaster event or emergency operation we need on the ground local information aboutwhat is happening and what is needed in these local communities,” she said.
“Emergency Liaison Officers will be able to provide this valuable information directly to the WDMG so that our response and recovery during a disaster event can be more efficient and targeted.”
Council is looking for volunteer Emergency Liaison Officers in the following communities:-
1. Gumlu / Molongle Creek2. Guthalungra3. Elliott River4. Merinda5. Binbee (Bogie River)6. Bowen River7. Heronvale (Brisk Bay)8. Mount Coolon9. Dingo Beach / Hydeaway Bay10. Conway Beach / Wilson Beach11. Lethebrook12. Kelsey Creek13. Shute Harbour
Mayor Whitney said a desirable applicant will have knowledge of Queensland DisasterManagement Arrangements and already be an active member of a volunteer organisation; such as State Emergency Service, Rural Fire Brigade, Volunteer Marine Rescue or a Local ProgressAssociation.
“Applicants must live within one of the 13 communities identified as needing an Emergency Liaison Officer,” she said.
“Emergency Liaison Officers will be required to conduct Rapid Impact Assessments of theircommunity and provide Situation Reports (SITREPS) to the WDMG when requested.
“Whitsunday Regional Council will provide the successful applicants with training in all the aboveduties and responsibilities,” she said.
