At Wednesday’s Council meeting, Council resolved to commence demolition of a structurallyunsound house in Sinclair Street, Bowen and to work with representatives of the owners toremove the building from a property located in Sonoma Street, Collinsville.
Director of Council’s Planning and Community Section, Mr Dan Staley said I understand localresidents are concerned about how long it is taking for these properties to be demolished.
“Council officers are working to resolve these issues as quickly and safely as possible,” he said.
“Council expects to undertake the demolition of the property in the coming weeks.
“Representatives of the owners of a burnt out house in Sonoma Street, Collinsville have given an undertaking to remove the building from site in the near future.
“If the demolition is not undertaken in a timely manner Council will also order the demolition of this property,” he said.
The demolition process has been complicated due to the presence of asbestos in the houses and as such the demolition will have to be handled by appropriately licenced contractors.
The costs associated with the demolition will be borne by the owners of the properties.
