The future joint venture development of the Whitsunday Coast Airport is poised to gain momentumwith Council’s Chief Executive Scott Waters now dedicated to the full time expression of interestprocess.
Mayor Cr Jennifer Whitney said that Council is currently seeking an expression of interest for ajoint venture partner to conjointly deliver the growth and development of the Whitsunday CoastAirport, inclusive of Council’s aviation assets in Bowen and Collinsville.
“The overall project is extensive and complex and will require the highest level of attention. As aresult, Council’s Chief Executive Officer – Scott Waters, will be dedicated to this project on a fulltime basis, this will ensure the highest levels of community, investor and government engagement.
“Council acknowledges the importance in delivering this project in a timely and successful manner whilst ensuring the project’s success and the very best outcome for our Community,
“Given Scott’s skill set, there is no one better placed to deliver the project and ensure Council’sinterests are upheld, throughout the process,
“During this time, while Scott is dedicated to the EOI process, under the provisions of the LocalGovernment Act 2009, an Acting Chief Executive Officer has been appointed,” Mayor JennyWhitney said.
At today’s Ordinary Council meeting Councillors today resolved the appointment of Acting ChiefExecutive Officer Mr Barry Omundson.
“Barry comes with a wealth of experience from Maranoa and Mackay Regional Councils, and hisappointment will ensure the delivery of our Budget.
“We welcome the appointment of Mr Barry Omundson to the role of Acting Chief Executive andnote his extensive experience in infrastructure management and his broad knowledge on ourregions opportunities and issues.” Mayor Whitney said.
