Construction work to upgrade Argyle Park Road in Bowen is progressing on target since theproject commenced on 4 September 2015.
Mayor Jenny Whitney said the Council previously adopted a design which will see a reduction of200mm in the flood level directly upstream of the Argyle Park Road crossing.
“The works are progressing well and it is expected that the road will be reopened on 4 December 2015,” Mayor Whitney said.
Works that have been undertaken to date include:
• Closure of road and redirection of all traffic through alternative route (commenced 2nd September 2015)• Removal of existing road and pipe crossing• Construction of base slab and associated earthworks• Relocation of Telstra services• Relocation of Water services commenced• Installation of 5/8 of culverts as detailed in design plans• Downstream earthworks
Works still remaining:
• Relocation of Ergon services• Remaining portion of base slab and culverts located close to Ergon cable to be installed• Reconstruction of road and associated roadside drainage• Construction of footpath• Completion of downstream earthworks
The project is funded under the Natural Disaster Resilience Program from the Department ofInfrastructure, Local Government & Planning to the sum of $2,486,000 to provide improved floodimmunity to access the Cyclone Shelter.
Mayor Whitney once again thanked the State Government for acknowledging the significance ofthis project to the people of Bowen.”
