Whitsunday Regional Council has received a development application from Whitsunday Chinatown Investments Pty Ltd to construct a mixed use retail, accommodation, office and community facility precinct at 45 – 71 Waterson Way, Airlie Beach.
Council’s Acting Chief Executive Officer, Barry Omundson, confirmed that the application was received on Monday, 14 December.
“The proponent, Whitsunday Chinatown Investments Pty Ltd, has lodged a development application and paid the appropriate fee,” Mr Omundson said.
“If approved, this project is likely to be a catalyst for major economic growth in the Whitsunday Region and create both short and long-term employment opportunities in the construction, retail and tourism sectors,” he said.
“Our Planning and Development Department will assess the application and report back to Council in the New Year.”
The development application will be assessed under the current Whitsunday Planning Scheme.
