Owners of lost pets are now being encouraged to subscribe to the Pound Pets email subscription service and check the new impounded pets register located on the Whitsunday Regional Council website.
Council’s Director of Planning and Community Services, Dan Staley, said that a photo and a short description of the animal will be distributed to email subscribers and placed on Council’s website shortly after its arrival at the Council pound.
“A registered dog or cat is a sign of responsible pet ownership and gives Council’s Local Law Officers the best chance of reuniting you with your pet should it become lost or wander from its yard,” Mr Staley said.
“Unfortunately we often find dogs and cats wandering at large without identification tags or microchips and we are forced to impound them,” he said.
“Residents can now subscribe to Pounds Pets in the Notify Me section of Council’s website to receive up-to-date information about recently impounded pets.
“In addition, pound pets will also be displayed on the Council website for a period of three days.
“While the register is updated daily with all of the animals that have been impounded, residents should also contact our Customer Service Centres.”

Dog and cat registration is a requirement in accordance with the Animal Management (Cats and Dogs) 2008, and failure to register a dog or cat over three months of age is an offence that may incur a fine.
