Whitsunday Regional Council has today resolved to begin the second round of public consultation for the draft Whitsunday Regional Council Planning Scheme on Monday 29 August 2016 with consultation to close on the Friday 14 October 2016.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said that proposed amendments have been made to the draft planning scheme since the initial consultation held in October 2015 provided valuable feedback from over 800 submissions.
“The data received has been analysed and weighed up against the need to create jobs and accommodate growth,” Cr Willcox said.
“Council has carefully considered the feedback provided by the Whitsunday community as we acknowledge that getting this right is imperative to the future success of the region,” he said.
“The draft planning scheme supports an exciting future for the Whitsundays in providing for liveable communities and housing diversity; economic growth; the protection of environment and heritage values; reduced hazards and increased safety; and an efficient transport and infrastructure network.
“I encourage all of our residents to be part of the planning process to shape the success of our region.”
Council will be seeking community input on a variety of issues identified within the first round of public consultation completed in 2015 through a range of consultation activities.
Round 2 of community consultation will commence on Monday 29 August 2016 with information to be made available on Council’s website www.whitsundayrc.qld.gov.au
