Whitsunday Regional Libraries will join with local schools and kindergartens to celebrate Children’s Book week from 20 – 26 August.
Each year, schools and public libraries across Australia celebrate the best of Australian children's literature, authors and illustrators with special book week activities, shows and displays.
Mayor Andrew Willcox said this year’s theme is ‘Australia! Story Country’ and to help the libraries celebrate, entertainer and comedian Sean Murphy will present the Book Week edition of his Kids Party Confidential show to school children at Bowen, Collinsville, Cannonvale and Proserpine libraries.
“Sean’s show will highlight the Children’s Book Council of Australia’s Book of the Year shortlist and put the authors, characters and children’s books on centre stage,” Cr Willcox said.
“There will be plenty happening during the week as the libraries will host several school and kindergarten visits with special ‘Australia’ themed story time activities planned.”
Councillor Ron Petterson will officially open Book Week at the Cannonvale Library and both he and Councillor Jan Clifford will be guest readers during the week.
