Emergency Service Contacts Minimize

ACTIVATION
The Whitsunday Disaster Coordination Centre will be activated and manned by Emergency Agencies and Council Staff to coordinate resources responding to a Disaster event. The Centre may not necessarily be activated prior to the impact of the event. The centre will be activated following the event.
The area for which the Whitsunday Disaster Coordination Centre is responsible includes the old Bowen and Whitsunday Shires.
Advice will be communicated to residents on local radio to advise when the Centre is operational.
Persons requiring assistance following an event should contact the centre and provide the detail as requested by the telephone operator.

COMMUNICATION OF ADVICE TO THE PUBLIC

Advice from the Disaster Coordination Centre to the public prior to, during and following an event will be provided by at least the following radio stations:

  • ABC North Qld - (Bowen) 630AM
  • ABC Tropical North - (Proserpine) FM 101.1 - (Coast) FM 89.9
  • 4TOFM - (Bowen) 774AM
  • ZINC FM - (Proserpine) FM101.9 - (Coast) FM 91.5
  • GEM FM - (Bowen) FM95.1
  • HOT FM - (Proserpine) FM100.3 - (Coast) FM94.7

Normal radio/telephone communications may be disrupted during a disaster, so have a working transistor radio with a fresh supply of batteries in your home; make sure all family members know where it is. During an emergency, keep mobile phones switched off to save batteries.
