Licensing of Water Carriers
Water carriers transporting drinking water in the Whitsunday Region are now regulated under the Food Act 2006.
Water that is carried in bulk in a vehicle and intended for human consumption, regardless of the source of the water is defined as “food” under the Food Act 2006 and therefore needs licensing as a Mobile Food Vehicle.
The Whitsunday Regional Council can help water carriers to comply with the new Food Act. For inquiries, contact Council on (07)4945 0200.
The new Food Act allows for water carriers to be licensed under this legislation, which is transferable between local government authorities. For instance, a water carrier licensed in Whitsunday Region will now be able to carry water in Townsville or Mackay without need for further licensing. This helps make licensing requirements consistent throughout Queensland.
