Weddings In Parks Weddings In Parks

The Whitsunday region has become an increasingly popular place to get married with around 1200 weddings per year. Further information for planning your wedding in the Whitsundays can be viewed by going to www.weddingswhitsundays.com website, supported by Tourism Whitsundays and Enterprise Whitsundays.

Whitsunday Regional Council takes great pride in maintaining the public parks and gardens around the region for everyone to enjoy and there has been an increasing number of couples choosing to hold their special day in these beautiful landscapes. Last year there were over twenty weddings held in some of the spectacular locations shown below in the Bowen, Proserpine and Airlie areas. In the Airlie Beach region, Shingley Beach is one of the most popular settings having beautifully manicured lawns and a gorgeous view over the Abel Point Marina.

Then at Airlie Foreshore there’s Anzac Point overlooking the azure Coral Sea and islands or the park and beach next to the Sailing Club where there is use of a rotunda if required.

Cannonvale Beach has the same vista, but is a little more secluded. Be sure to check the tide times!

Cedar Creek Falls

Snows Beach - Shute Harbour

For something a little different Cedar Creek Falls is a magnificent backdrop, (early in the year is the best time when the Falls are running) and Snows Beach at Shute Harbour is a quiet sheltered little beach away from through traffic and onlookers.

Hydeaway Bay

Dingo Beach and Hydeaway Bay are two other destinations for something really unique. They host two of the prettiest beaches in our region. It may take a little extra time to get there, but it is well worth it.
Dingo Beach has lovely white sand and ocean breezes. Depending upon the time of year, you could find that you have the whole beach to yourself.
Hydeaway Bay is just around the corner from Cape Gloucester. It is a lovely sheltered bay with gentle tides, native trees and soft sand. When it is windy in Airlie Beach, it is usually sheltered here.

Mandalay Chapel

Mandalay Chapel View

This quaint little outdoor chapel (pictured above) is a short drive from Airlie Beach in Jubilee Pocket. Take a left turn on Mandalay Road past the Queensland Parks and Wildlife centre and drive just over 3kms. You will turn left onto a dirt track to the chapel and picnic grounds. There you'll find some rustic timber benches facing a lone white cross, looking out over the ocean. The lovely little beach with a beautiful view of Airlie Beach in the distance, over the water across Muddy Bay completes the picture. The Chapel was built there many years ago for a Christian camp to use for church services. It is now Council land and a popular site for secluded wedding ceremonies.

Please be aware there are no toilet facilities or power at this site.

In the Bowen region you can't go past beautiful Sherrington’s Horseshoe Bay at sunrise, or any time for that matter! Catering can be arranged at the local café if required, for canapés on the beach. Murray Bay and Rose Bay are other stunning spots with inviting pale sandy beaches and swaying palm trees. Muller's Lagoon offers the perfect photo opportunity with its quaint little bridge and lush gardens. There is an abundance of bird life there with many ducks, wading birds and occasionally swans.

Our hard working Parks & Gardens team work tirelessly to maintain all the beaches, parks and reserves in spectacular condition. Most areas have access to amenities blocks close by and power can be accessed by prior arrangement.

Please ensure that your wedding applications reach Council one month minimum prior to your ceremony.  Earlier if possible would be an advantage. It is important that Council receives this notice to avoid double booking, to ensure that the area is not scheduled for garden work or sand maintenance at the time and to make sure that the sprinklers don’t come on during your ceremony!

There is an application fee for all weddings and a refundable bond is applicable.  Fees can be accessed from our fees and charges document - Fee and Charges.

For further information, you can download a copy of the application form at the bottom of this page. You will need the ‘Minor Events Application Form - including weddings'. Fill in as much detail as possible using the second page checklist as a guide. Both the Indemnity form and the Statutory Declaration are required to be completed as part of your application.

To assist you in marking the exact location of your event at the allocated sites, please download or print a copy of the relevant location map listed to the left. You can use them to draw a site plan of your event. (Please be aware the photos may not be current, but the site location and areas are current). If the location map is not there, please draw a 'mud map' of the area; Council will contact you if further information is required.

Should you require any further information regarding weddings, please contact Carol Clifton on 4945 0208.
