Disposal of Asbestos

The removal of asbestos-containing materials from homes and workplaces has different obligations for householders and contractors. Removal of asbestos should only be done with special care to avoid the release of asbestos fibres into the air.

Home renovators and owner-builders must hold a certificate obtained under arrangements approved or established by Queensland Health to remove more than 10 square meters of non-friable (also known as bonded) asbestos materials

For further information view the Queensland Government's website or contact 13 QGOV (137468).
For disposal of asbestos at Council's Kelsey Creek landfill site, please contact Council's Waste Management Team on (07) 4945 0432.

Please note that Council is currently not able to accept asbestos at the Bowen landfill site until further notice.
